How to Create a Swedish Country Kitchen

 

If you love country kitchens, you need to discover the Swedish version! Swedish countryside style is cosy and warm, just like English countryside style, with that edited Scandinavian taste. Here are 5 elements, which together help create a Swedish countryside kitchen:

1. Wooden floors - Swedes love an authentic wooden floor. It’s warm and soft under your feet, is natural, and is easy to sweep. Keep the wood natural for warmth, or white-washed for a much-loved brightening effect.

3. Wainscot panelling - This panelling is cosy and approachable. It’s used across a whole wall, on the ceiling, or at the back of shelves.

4. Paints with a lot of grey in it - The light in Sweden is usually very diffused, due to cloudy skies, faint sunlight, and short days. Because of this, colours with a lot of grey in it (not overly bright and saturated), sit more naturally in their homes. Also, these are the tones they’ll see in nature, just outside their window. For grey-green, try Dulux’s Letters Unread or Tranquil Dawn, or for grey-blue try their Cloudy Dreams, Smooth Flint.

5. Wooden accents - Swedes love natural wood at home, and the kitchen is no exception. Hang wooden pegs along your back splash, or on the side of your end cabinet, to bring more warmth to your space.
